Kingston Hospital in top 20% after shining in NHS National Staff Survey

Kingston Hospital saw major developments in their 2015 NHS National Staff Survey published last week as the Trust moves into top 20% in the country.

The survey, published on February 23, showed significant improvements in scores, compared to 2014, across a range of areas, including recommending the hospital for treatment and a place to work.

The Trust finished in the top 20% of hospitals across England in a number of areas, including support from immediate managers, effective team working and low levels of physical violence from patients, relatives and visitors.

Paul Hargreaves, workforce and organisational development acting director, said: “We are very pleased with the results of this year’s survey.

“It shows that the work we have been doing over the last 18 months is paying off and that our staff feel that the experience of working at Kingston Hospital is getting better and better.

“This also has a positive impact on our patients as we know that happier and well supported staff leads to better patient care.”

Over the last 18 months, the hospital has worked at improving the quality of appraisals and providing training to managers on how to hold useful one to ones.

As well as this, they have run a team development programme for their ward teams and spent considerable time focusing on the development of more junior staff.

Mr Hargreaves added: “That is why I am pleased that more staff have reported that the Hospital’s top priority is patient care.

“We will continue to focus on improving the working lives of all our very dedicated staff, particularly our staff from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Community.

“We will also ensure that Kingston Hospital is an excellent place to work and an employer of choice.”

The survey took place between September and December last year and collects data on the experience of NHS staff on a number of issues, including patient care, working patterns, job satisfaction, health and wellbeing and staff engagement.
