Jam-packed! Sardine relay and Mad Hatter’s tea party set for Surbiton Food Festival

Budding chefs and dog-lovers alike rejoice as the grand finale of the 2016 Surbiton Food Festival is jam-packed with events this weekend.

This Saturday sees the fifth annual Seething Community Sports Day and Picnic, featuring the King’s soup race and the sardine relay, in addition to the more traditional three-legged, egg and spoon and sack races.

The Surbiton Veterinary Hospital is inviting residents to enter their pooches into their fun dog show — you’d be barking not to.

Sunday will play host to a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at a secret garden in Surbiton.

The Alice in Wonderland-inspired picnic aimed at children and adults alike is in aid of Creative Youth — a charity that encourages young people to realise their potential through creative arts.

The festival feel will be accompanied with live music and entertainment across both days.

The two-week long festival started on April 30 and has been more popular than ever this year.

Organiser Robin Hutchinson said: “We have had crowds of around five thousand it’s very encouraging to have so much support

“I’m genuinely thrilled to bits, if the weather is good over the weekend it could be magical — it’s all about putting smiles on faces of the people of Surbiton.”

The Lamb pub will welcome French pop/electro band Milky WAY later Sunday evening to cap off the festival in style with music and chocolate.

So far the festival has had wine tasting, pizza making and butchery demonstrations that even vegetarian Mr Hutchinson described as fascinating.

Tomorrow’s sports day will be at the Victoria Recreation Ground while tickets for Sunday’s tea party can be secured by emailing [email protected].
