Icy splash for cash: Streatham MP Chuka Umunna braves ice bucket challenge for cancer charity

Streatham MP Chuka Umunna has doused himself in water and embraced the teeth-chattering charity fundraising craze.

The shadow business secretary shrugged off his usual work attire and, armed with just a t-shirt and shorts, accepted the chilly Ice Bucket Challenge last weekend for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND) and Macmillian.

The ice bucket challenge dares people to tip buckets of icy water over themselves, to simulate one of the symptoms of the degenerative disease, and nominate three friends to endure the test themselves.

Each nominee also donates to charity, but the fun of the campaign is seeing people react to the freezing water.

The ice bucket challenge has gone viral since its inception to raise money for the ALS Association.

In the past month ALS have received more than £60million in donations from daring volunteers.

In the UK soggy fundraisers have been donating to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and other charities.

Chuka Umunna nominated his fellow shadow cabinet colleague Tristram Hunt, Labour MP for Tottenham, David Lammy and Labour’s Bury candidate James Frith.
