A free ice-skating rink is coming to Balham town centre to kick start the festive season.

For three days next month visitors will be able to put on their skates in a 60sq metre synthetic rink sponsored by Network Rail, in the Balham Community Space, (next to Sainsbury’s) on Bedford Hill.

Celebrations begin last weekend with musical performances by the South London Choir, Balham Ukulele Society and the Chestnut Grove School Steel Band.

“These events have been organised by The Balham Partnership to encourage people to celebrate Christmas in Balham,” said Kim Sullivan, Balham Town Centre Manager.

“Balham town centre is well placed to meet all your festive needs.”

Community carols will be held this Saturday between 4pm and 5pm in the Balham Community Space.

It is sponsored by Samuel Estates, Southern Railway, The Bedford pub and Sainsbury’s.

The rink will be open Friday 14 December between 1pm and 8pm, Saturday 15 December between 10am and 6pm, and Sunday 16 December 11am to 6pm.

Skates from children’s size nine to adult size 12 will be available to hire free of charge. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

These Christmas events have been organised by the Balham Town Centre Manager, The Balham Partnership and Wandsworth Council and are supported by the Mayor of London.
