Hercules Wimbledon beat Haywards Heath Harriers in a tight contest alongside five other clubs in the Southern Women’s League on Saturday.

In the second match of the season, the Hercules women dominated in the track events at Wimbledon Park athletics track, especially the senior team who came first in thirteen races, and the under 15s in nine races.

The victory puts Hercules second in the league standings, meaning they need to score highly in the next two fixtures to win the league.

Heather Letley, Hercules women’s team manager said: “It was a hard fought battle between us and Haywards Heath – we won but it was quite rare to be on the same number of points as them for a lot of the day.

“It was great to see so many people cheering Hercules along the home straight; it really gave the athletes the motivation to win.”

Emilie Bokor-Ingram comfortably won the 400m in 60.4 seconds and helped the senior women to triumph in the 4x400m relay as well as the 4x100m.

Top marathon runner Clare Grima also turned on the speed to win the 1500m in 4:57.7 and the 3000m in 10:21.4, beating her PB in both events.

Florence King, member of the winning 4x100m relay team, won the B-string 100m as well as the high jump.

U15 star Tallulah Atkin came first in the 100m, 200m (B) and Shot Putt, with fellow youngster Chloe Lord winning the 75m Hurdles and Shot Putt (B).

Hercules hosts the Rosenheim League Eastern Division match at Wimbledon Park on Wednesday, June 11, starting at 6.45pm.
