Harlequins unveil new kit for 2018/2019 season

Harlequins and principal partner Adidas released the club’s 2018/19 home and away kits for general sale.

This year’s home shirt celebrates the ‘swagger’ of the Harlequin, the Jester that has been the club’s motif and brand for over 150 years.

The shirt is forward-thinking in its modernity and technology while always paying homage to the history that Harlequins has fashioned.

The club’s traditional quartered shirt can be seen from a distance while smaller quarters are visible up close. The kits use all the six traditional colours in the Harlequins palette and the midnight blue is a nod to the 1912 handbook when the Club prescribed that it wore navy blue ‘knickerbockers’ and socks.

Quins’ fly-half Marcus Smith said: “It’s an exciting kit. You never know with Adidas what you are going to get – but it is always a bit different and unpredictable. But the kit has kept the heritage with the original colours which I love but they have added a few lines here and there so it looks a bit funky.”

The theme of the away kit is Menace. Again, it speaks to the menacing yet playful character that is the Harlequin jester. The traditional themes run through the away kit too, with the skewed midnight black quarters on the shirt with a green base and grey shorts and socks.

Abbie Scott, second row for Harlequins Ladies, said: “Some kits can be quite boring but we are always wearing something quite exciting at Harlequins. The away kit is definitely loud but that’s the way Harlequins play isn’t it? It’s modern and different.”.”

Harlequins will also be launching its revolutionary charity shirt in October.
