Pupils and teachers at Hammersmith & Fulham schools are celebrating after achieving a sensational set of A-Level results last week.

The pass rate at grades A*-C was 76.5%, 2% higher than last year and 0.1% above the national average.

The number of students achieving A and A* grades was 27.2%, a 0.8% increase and 0.6% above the national average.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Nicholas Botterill said: “I would like to congratulate all pupils who attend schools in the borough for an exceptional set of examination grades. These results are a testament to the hard work that the pupils have put in over the past two years.”

Provisional results for the borough show that 98.1% of students passed with A*-E grades, in line with the national average.

The results are even more impressive considering the crack down on ‘grade inflation’ this year.

Nationally, 26.6% of exams were given an A or A*, down from 27% last year – a record drop of 0.4%.

The London Oratory School in Fulham is celebrating its second best results score in the school’s history, with 71.5% of students scoring grades A*-B, and a quarter achieving three As or more.

Mary Llewellyn-Smith, 17, got three A*s and an A and will study veterinary science at Cambridge University. She said: “I am shocked, happy and surprised. I can’t wait to celebrate with my friends!”

Lady Margaret School in Fulham scored an impressive set of results with 67% of examinations hitting A*-B standard.

William Morris Sixth Form in Hammersmith achieved a set of excellent results, with pupil Vinoth Rasanayagam, 18, gaining two A*s and one A.

School Principal, Kevin Gilmartin, said: “Yet again we are very proud of our students’ results. We were judged as being “outstanding” in our last Ofsted inspection and we are delighted that we are maintaining those academic standards.”

At Burlington Dane’s Academy, 79% of students scored A*-C, up from 68% last year, while an outstanding 23% were ether A* or A.

Star pupil Haengeun Chi gained three A*s and an A, and will now study maths at Imperial College. She said: “I’ve done better than I thought I would. I can’t wait to go to university.”

Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College was celebrating an overall pass rate of 93%, with 60% of students gaining grades A*-C, as well as achieving a 100% pass rate in several subjects.

Emma Jarman, Assistant Principal, said: “We would like to congratulate all our students on their successes as we recognise their considerable efforts over the last two years.”
