Creative young cooks can now apply for the 2012 competition to find the next Jamie Oliver.

Those aged between 14-16 who attend school in Hammersmith and Fulham are being asked to wipe down their aprons and dust off their recipe books to find the borough’s best aspiring chef, organised by the council.

The hour-long final will crown one young person the culinary king or queen at the TASTE restaurant, judged by some of the fussiest eaters in town.

To be in for a chance of winning the title, contestants must prepare a two-course meal from fresh ingredients costing just £6.50.

This year’s winner, Kieron Joseph, beat off five other hopefuls to win the 2011 Hammersmith and Fulham Young Chef of the Year award.

Keiron said: “Winning this award has been a great boast to me.”

He wowed judges by cooking up an impressive collaboration of honey, balsamic lamb and creamy leaks with apricot and avocado.

The winner has high ambitions for the future, aspiring to own his own chain of Indian-themed restaurants one day.

Hammersmith and Fulham mayor, councillor Adronie Alford, believes events like this are key for teaching children to cook healthily, a lesson he says is a vital life skills.

Those who think they have the potential to cook up a storm should contact the commercial services team on 020 8753 1081, or email [email protected] before Monday January 23, 2012.
