Fulham hope to keep fortunes on the up as they face Wigan Athletic

Fulham will be hoping carry on where they left off last week in the Championship, with a victory in Kit Symons first game as permanent manager.

The popular Welshman was finally handed the reins on a fulltime basis this week, following a successful period as caretaker manager, after the sacking of Felix Magath in September.

The club have amassed 13 points from a possible 21 in the league under Symons, and that form has seen them move out of the relegation zone into 20th place.

Sitting just one place above them is Saturday’s opponents Wigan, who have endured a tough start to the season after narrowly missing out on an instant return to the Premier League last term.

The Latics, who have won just three times in the league so far, will be buoyed by their excellent 2-1 win away to table-toppers Derby County last weekend heading into the fixture.

Symons is likely to recall key players Dan Burn, Scott Parker and Ross McCormack after they were rested in midweek for the Capital One Cup defeat against Derby County.

Hugo Rodallega should also return to face his former club after limping out of last Friday’s victory over Charlton after suffering from cramp.

Wigan midfielders Ben Watson and Chris McCann could be available after stepping up their recoveries from long-term injuries in a friendly this week.

Star Man: Scott Parker

Danger Man: James McClean

Last time they met: January 12, 2013, Fulham 1 Wigan 1
