Fulham fighting: Cottagers target third Championship win in a row at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday v Fulham @ Hillsborough

Saturday, September 19 @ 3pm

Fulham hope to maintain their recent surge of form to secure a hat-trick of Championship wins as they face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow afternoon.

After only two points from their first four games, Fulham have seemingly begun to fix their problems, winning their last two Championship games against Rotherham and Blackburn.

They also decimated Wednesday’s neighbours Sheffield United in a 3-0 clash in the Football League Cup second round.

Despite their wins, Fulham fans remain apprehensive as their team have only managed to pick up points against teams in the relegation zone.

Tomorrow’s game is a must-win for manager Kit Symons’ side as they face some tough opposition in upcoming weeks including QPR, Wolves and Charlton in the Championship and Stoke in the League cup.

Symons told the Fulham website yesterday his side must be different.

He said: “We need to increase our periods of dominance, at the moment we’re no different to other teams.

“No team can dominate for 70 or 80 minutes, this is Championship football.”

Wednesday will undoubtedly be a challenge for the Whites, as they are desperately struggling for points and have come under increasing pressure after their dismal start to the season.

The Owls are still looking to generate chemistry after their overhaul in the summer, with 15 players leaving the team and 14 new players coming in.

Despite the new blood, Wednesday remain winless in six.

First choice keeper Kieren Westwood is potentially set to start, after overcoming a side strain gained earlier in the season.

Fulham’s defence may be in for a struggle, with Ryan Fredericks out after he sustained a hamstring injury, and questions surrounding the fitness of both Shaun Hutchinson and Nikolav Bodurov.

A minute of silence is scheduled for before the game, and both teams are set to don black armbands, to honour former Wednesday and England keeper Ron Springett, who passed away last week.
