Streatham Redskins’ Fisher ‘excited’ by top of table clash against Chelmsford but warns against complacency

Streatham Redskins forward Steven Fisher says that Saturday’s top of the table clash with Chelmsford Chieftains will show just how far the team have come this season.

Redskins stretched their unbeaten run to nine games last weekend when they drew with the Invicta Dynamos in the cup and beat Oxford City Stars in the league the following day.

This will be the first time they face Chelmsford this season and Fisher says he can’t wait to get on the ice in front of the home crowd again.

“It’s exciting with the top of the table clash so early on in the season,” said Fisher.

“Everyone knows that Chelmsford are always going to be right at the top but we have had a good start and tomorrow we will find out where we actually are against the best.”

Redskins are two points ahead of their nearest rivals in the English National Ice Hockey League South One having lost and drawn one while Chelmsford are yet to taste defeat this season.

Fisher claims the team are confident ahead of the game but this is where they need to step it up a level and show they can beat the best.

“There is definitely character in the changing room which we can rely on in tough situations,” he said.

“But there is no point in just winning the games we should be winning and not win the ones where we are the underdogs.”

“Playing against Chelmsford is just one of those games now where if the team wants to do well and win silverware we have to compete against the top teams and Saturday’s game is all about that.”
