Detectives appeal for Tooting Broadway station witness after six-week-old baby boy’s death

Detectives investigating the death of a six-week-old baby boy are appealing for help in tracing a woman who is believed to have seen him before he died.

The woman pictured was seen at Tooting Broadway station on November 27 2014 at 8.40pm near the escalator.

Footage shows her checking on the child’s welfare as he travelled with another woman.

At around 9:10am on November 29, officers attended an address in Russell Road, N13, following concerns for a child’s welfare.

The six-week-old boy was found unconscious and unresponsive at the address and was pronounced dead at hospital a short while later.

A post-mortem examination held on December 3 proved inconclusive and further toxicology tests are being carried out.

A man and a woman, both in their 40s, have been charged in connection with his death.

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, leading the investigation from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “As part of our investigation we are keen to trace a woman pictured on CCTV at Tooting Broadway station.

“This woman is potentially an important witness. If that is you, or you have any information, please come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8785 8099 or to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
