British teen Jack Draper continues sparkling 2018 form with second tournament win in a week

Rising British tennis star Jack Draper continued his winning streak by claiming the F5 Futures title in Roehampton on Saturday.

The 16-year-old battled wind and rain on the outdoor courts at the National Tennis Centre to beat Swede Filip Bergevi 6-3 6-2.

It came a week after sealing his maiden ITF F5 title at the GB Pro Series in Nottingham.

He said: “I feel great, because last week I also had a really good week in Nottingham so I’m really happy with how this has gone too.”

Draper reached the boys’ final at Wimbledon this year despite being unseeded and back-to-back wins have seen him shoot up more than 300 spots in the world rankings to become world number 784.

Due to adverse weather conditions with heavy winds and rain, play was interrupted throughout the tournament all week, testing the patience and mental strength of the players.

It forced the doubles final to be played indoors with British pair James Story and Connor Thomson losing to the French-Swiss pair of Antoine Bellier and Baptiste Crepatte 7-6, 6-7, 10-5.

Story said: “We had some home support out here and it’s a great feeling getting to our first Futures Doubles Finals.”
