Appeal for witnesses to Croydon stabbing which left one teenager dead and two injured

Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Croydon in an incident which saw two others injured last night.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended after police were called at approximately 9.10pm to reports of a male stabbed on Brighton Road. Despite their efforts, he died at the scene 40 minutes later.

His next of kin have been informed but the victim has not yet been formally identified.

A second teenager was found nearby suffering from stab injuries and taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a stable condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A third male, also thought to be in his late teens, was found close to Purley train station suffering from a slash wound. He was taken to a south London hospital for treatment; his injuries are not life-threatening. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Two other male teenagers were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. They have been taken to south London police stations where they remain in custody.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating in close partnership with police in Croydon.
