Barking mad! Battersea boozer hosts pampered pooches partying doggy style

What time is it? Woof Time! Dapper dogs in drag took over The Four Thieves pub in Battersea on Sunday afternoon.

Crazy canines and pampered puppies were able to cut loose and mingle at the inaugural event in SW11 on Sunday, January 15.

The happy hounds took part in a doggy style fashion show inspired by RuPaul’s drag race, a Rottweiler raffle and a barking bake off.

“The relationship people have with dogs very often is so nurturing and loving and so much fun,” said event host Katie O’Brien.

“Dogs give you so much joy and I think the idea of bringing people who really love their dogs together is really beautiful and wonderful but also with the activities it is completely ridiculous.

“I would just like to give people permission to be ridiculous with their dogs and to get together and just be like ‘You know what? Let’s just be free and let go!’ – like a little festival.”

The mongrel madness even helps shy dogs come out their shell – like a-paw-able Piper, a Battersea Dogs and Cats Home rescue dog.

Her owner Liz said: “Piper would just sleep and sit around and not get a chance to socialise with other dogs if it wasn’t for an event like this.

“Besides, any place you can go on a Sunday and bring your dog is considered a success to me.”

Following Sunday’s roaring success, top dog Mrs O’Brien has already spoken to several venues about hosting Woof Time on a bi-weekly basis with a view to franchising the event.

She said: “What I would like to do ultimately is once it grows and it becomes more regular is to donate 5% to a different charity every time.”

“People can relax once they are laughing and realising how silly it is you can really make dogs feel like they are your little humans and they are part of the family and they are part of you.”
