Wimbledon fans could get their hands on Andy Murray’s tennis racket as the world number one auctions off sports memorabilia in the name of charity next month.
Murray, who hasn’t played since Wimbledon due to a hip injury, will face world number two Roger Federer at the SSE Hydro Glasgow’s Andy Murray Live event on November 7 in his first match since his quarter-final exit at Wimbledon.
As well as a prize draw for Murray’s Wimbledon racket, fans can bid on lots including tickets for the 2018 Ryder Cup and Anthony Joshua’s signed boxing glove.
Murray said, “I am so pleased to be able to bring Roger to play in Scotland for the first time.
“He will get a chance to see for himself just how enthusiastic Scottish fans are.”
Murray will also entertain the crowd as he plays a doubles match with his brother Jamie against Tim Henman and Mansour Bahrami.
This is Murray’s second charitable tennis exhibition; last year the event raised more than £300,000 for Young People’s Futures and Unicef, for whom Murray is a patron.
This year proceeds will be split between children’s charity Unicef and Sunny-sid3up, which focuses on projects that improve lives and communities in Scotland and overseas.
“I am really pleased that Andy Murray Live can support another Glasgow-based charity and make a real difference to the lives of those in need,” Murray said.
“The work that Sunny-sid3up do was a real inspiration to me.”
With some tickets costing as little as £25, fans can expect fierce competition for a seat in the arena, while the event will be broadcast live on Eurosport on November 7 at 8.30pm.
