AFC Wimbledon head to Tranmere without their manager but intent on changing away day fortunes

AFC Wimbledon take on Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Saturday without manager Neal Ardley, who is recovering from surgery on his hip.

Assistant Neil Cox and first-team coach Simon Bassey will take charge of the Dons as they look to end a string of eight away games without a win.

Hosts Tranmere sit 22nd in League Two just one point above bottom club Hartlepool and are currently on a poor home run of their own, having lost their last three.

Dons striker Adebayo Akinfenwa’s goals have dried up of late, with only one – albeit a screamer – since early February.

And bar now-retired David Connolly, who scored a late winner against Luton last month, none of the other Dons strikers have stepped up during that period.

However there is encouragement for Wimbledon as Rovers have only kept two clean sheets at home all season, both of which came in 0-0 draws, and have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 13 games.

The Dons could go 10th with a win and even revive hopes of a play-off push which seemed extinguished following the recent poor run on the road.
