Jose Mourinho has been sacked as Chelsea manager after a dismal run of results left then languishing just above the relegation zone.
Mourinho led the Blues to the Premier League title in May but they have lost nine of their 16 games this season and are just a point above the relegation zone.
Mourinho admitted after Monday’s defeat to league leaders Leicester City that qualifying for next season’s Champions League was now out of reach but had vowed to carry on.
However owner Roman Abramovich has decided to act and end the Portuguese manager’s second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.
